Nature’s Cool Mini-Camp

Mark your calendar! Camp registration opens March 1st at 9am

BVRA offers 9 weeks of themed nature camps for younger campers, ages 3-5. These Monday through Thursday half-day camps provide summer fun and learning through outdoor exploration and discovery and themed interactive activities, stories, songs and art projects.

Each week, young mini-campers will experience:

  • Free play in the Children’s Play Garden, a certified nature classroom. This outdoor classroom features a variety of thoughtfully prepared learning and play areas that are designed to inspire curiosity and stimulate young minds.
  • Montessori and Reggio-Emilia inspired hands-on activities and interactive learning
  • Art and craft projects, using recycled materials as much as possible
  • Adventures outside of the Play Garden
  • Healthy snacks
  • Countless adventures with our caring and trained staff (2 trained leaders for a maximum of 12 campers)

Due to the overwhelming popularity of BVRA Mini Camps, we offer both an AM and PM session.  The AM session runs 8am to Noon, and the PM session runs 1pm to 5pm.  If your child is interested in attending both the AM and PM session in the same day, this is possible. However, you will need to make arrangements for the lunch hour. The play garden will be closed to allow our staff time to re-set and prepare for the afternoon session.

*Please note:  Any child attending mini-camp must be completely potty trained to attend camp.

Discounts:

Multiple Child Discount- Do you have children who are in multiple BVRA summer camps during the same week? Siblings who attend any of the BVRA camps during the same week qualify for a 10% discount.

Refund Policy:

Weeks are fully refundable minus a $25.00 fee for each refund transaction (if you return multiple weeks at once, you will only be charged $25.00).  Refund requests must be received two weeks in advance of the start of camp. Later requests will only be refunded if the child’s spot can be filled.  Cancelling may invalidate discounts and shall reflect such. Cancellations less than two weeks in advance will not be refunded unless the space can be filled from the wait list.

Themes:

Each week Nature's Cool Mini-Camp has a different theme.  These themes are designed to encourage exploration and creativity of the world around us.  The following are the 2018 Mini-Camp Themes!

  • Let the Games Begin!- The fantastic Miss Monique Alexander returns to Mini-Camp to lead a full week of Olympic themed fun!  Throughout the week campers will recreate Olympic traditions, learn the history of the games, play min-versions of Olympic games, and work together as team members.  This is our 3rd Annual Olympic camp and it continues to be a favorite.  Don't miss a fun filled week that is sure to tire every mini Olympian out.
  • Engineering in NatureSome of the best human engineering comes from concepts borrowed from nature.  A kingfisher's beak was the model for the Shinkasen Bullet Train.  George de Mestral invented Velcro after observing burs stuck to his dogs hair.  Campers this week will investigate this inventions and have the opportunity to develop their own.
  • The Unseen Kingdom- This week the focus is on the world you cannot see with the naked eye.  Mini-campers will have an opportunity to use microscopes and investigate the unseen world of the play garden.
  • Out of This World- Nothing grabs the imagination like the vastness of the universe.  This week is dedicated to all things space.  Campers will have the opportunity to investigate planets, stars, black holes, and the other mysteries that lay beyond our atmosphere.
  • Mad Science!- So many things to investigate... so few hours in the day.  This mad fun week will feature lab coats, experiments, and reactions.  This week is for the little scientist in every child.
  • From Head to Toe- This week is all about the human body.  At BVRA we are lucky enough to have a number of medial professionals that work or volunteer at BVRA.  During this week we will have a number of guest teachers who will work with campers to spend the week learning about the human body.
  • The Giving Tree- Trees are all around us, and plentiful at the park.  But trees don't get the credit they deserve.  Hundreds of products we use every day are made from trees, they generate our oxygen, and some of them make food.  Campers will spend the week learning to appreciate all the things that trees do.
  • Fairy Gardens & Gnome Homes- Last summer this week was one of our most popular.  Campers spent the week building an enormous fairy and gnome town out of recycled materials.  No detail was overlooked.  Tiny power-lines made with yarn even connected each tiny home.  Due to the overwhelming popularity of this theme, we are bringing it back this year.
  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work- Many types of insects and animals live in collective groups.  Together they accomplish great things.  Polycalic termite nests, anthills, and antelope herds.  Nature is also full of unlikely animal pairings: Plover birds and crocodiles, sea anemones and clownfish, just to name a few.   This week is all about working together as a team.
  • Water World- The final week of mini-camp is often the warmest week of the summer.  For this reason we are dedicating this whole week to water.  We will have sprinklers, slip and slides, and other fun water activities.  We'll also build boats to sail and learn more about H2O.
