In the Heart of Downtown Lewisburg

In January of 2018 Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) launched a brand new After-School Program in partnership with The Lewisburg Children’s Museum (LCM).  The program was a tremendous success.  Parents loved that their children were in a safe, engaging environment, and kids just loved the fun-filled program.  LEARN combines free play with structured learning in a way that inspires kids, while BVRA recreation specialists get kids up and moving.  Research shows that time spent outdoors, moving, and engaging in free play is critical to development.   LEARN staff also lead kids in activities that inspire leadership, creativity, and imagination.  Local educators will provide STEM activities so fun that kids won’t even know that they are learning.  Guest educators from Bucknell will bring special projects that focus on engineering, art, and technology.  These activities will be built around quiet homework time.  Healthy snacks will also be provided.

Location & Activities

All activities will take place in and around the Green Space Center.  Formerly the Lewisburg High School, this renovated facility is now home to the Lewisburg Children’s Museum, Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA), and the BVRA Gymnastics Center.   Students from the program will have access to two classrooms in the Children’s Museum, the BVRA Gymnastics Gym, and expansive outdoor green space.  With a convenient location in the heart of downtown Lewisburg,  participants will be in walking distance to Hufnagle Park, many downtown locations, and have access to an easy bus stop.  Students who commute to the program by bus will be met at the stop by our staff.  Each week we will follow a general schedule of themes each day.

  • Monday– Outdoor Focus on Nature & Games (Poor weather alternate: LEARN Players theater workshops)
  • Tuesday– Behind the scenes time at the Lewisburg Children’s Museum
  • Wednesday– Art
  • Thursday– Science, Engineering, & Technology (S.T.E.M.)
  • Friday– Gymnastics
Transportation

A bus stop has been added that will drop students off in Dale’s Alley near Door #9 of the Green Space Center.  Staff will meet kids who take advantage of the bus system.  Children can also be dropped off directly at the program, please call in to make arrangements.   Please contact Lewisburg School Transportation directly to place your child on this bus route.

Hours of Operation

Monday through Friday: 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Staff will be in place after school to meet students arriving by bus or drop off.  All students must be picked up by 6:30 p.m.
