Preschool Fundamentals (3-4 yrs old)

This class is for kids who are just getting used to being in the water.  The class will be comprised of group activities in which kids bob in the water, submerge their face in the water, blow bubbles, and move freely in the water.  the zero entry area of the pool with a maximum depth of 3 feet is used for this class.  Parents may enter the water with their children or simply wait outside the pool.   Swim diapers are required for all children who are not yet potty trained.

Level 1- Introduction to Water Skills

Level 1 encourages independent development of fundamental aquatic skills.  This class helps participants feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. A child in this class should be tall enough to stand with head above water at 3ft. as there is a focus on beginning to work independently.  New techniques that are introduced in this class include: entering water by stepping or jumping in from the side, submerging entire head, blowing bubbles, open eyes underwater, front and back glide, swim 15 feet on front and 10 feet on back, swim on side, life jacket use. This class requires that children be attentive to the instructor and be able to follow directions.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

This class builds upon the skills developed in Level 1.  Children will move to the larger lap pool and work in areas of the pool between 4 and 6 feet in depth.  Instructors will introduce the following skills: jumping into deep water, head first entry from sitting or kneeling, submerging and retrieving an object, bobbing, survival float for 30 seconds, treading water for 30 seconds, front crawl 15 yards, butterfly 15 feet, back crawl 15 yards, elementary rescues, and safe diving.  Students will also use the diving well to practice diving from the side.

Level 3: Stroke Development

The objective of this class is to develop confidence in the strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills by increasing endurance through swimming greater distances  The following skills will be covered in class: diving, underwater swimming, feet-first surface dive, 1 minute of survival floating, treading and back floating, 25 yards of front crawl, breaststroke and back crawl, 15 yards of butterfly and elementary backstroke and sidestroke.  This class will utilize the lap pool, and diving well.  All students in this class should have passed level 2, be comfortable in the water, and be able to follow verbal instructions.

Level 4,5, & 6: Stroke Improvement

In the combination of Level 4, 5 and 6 swimmers develop confidence in stokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills. Introduce breaststroke, sidestroke and wall turns. Coordination and refinement of key strokes. Introduce the butterfly, open turns, feet-first surface dives. Increase swim distances. Swimmers will learn to polish strokes so students swim with more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances.  This is a great class for students interested in joining the swim team, or simply refining skills.  Students in this class must be comfortable in the water, have strong swimming skills, and be able to follow verbal instructions.

Please sign up for the level/age group appropriate for your child. Children will be assessed by instructor and may be re-assigned if required.
