BVRA is hiring for the following positions:

Lifeguards

This position is responsible for maintaining order at the pool facility by preventing accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons. Lifeguards are also responsible for monitoring the pool facilities for potential hazards or unsafe conditions, providing first aid to patrons, custodial duties in maintaining the pool facilities, public relations, and all other duties as necessary or required. This position requires weekend and Holiday work. Applicants 16 years or older.

Prior lifeguard certification is not required, but applicants must be able to pass lifeguard certification class (hosted by BVRA) before beginning employment. This includes a prerequisite swim test where applicants must demonstrate skills such as swimming 300 yards continuously, treading water, and picking up and transporting an object from the bottom of the pool.

Physical Aspects:

  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged amount of time.
  • Position may require lifting of children or adults for rescue.
  • The ability to see, hear, and communicate are integral for this position and manual dexterity is needed to perform day to day operations.
  • Exposure to sun, heat, and various water conditions.

Weekly Hours, Duration, and Time Commitment:

  • Required attendance to pool staff orientation in May, staff in-services, training sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Must be available both weekdays and weekends. Preference will be given to applicants available for entire length of pool season.

Pool Front Desk Staff

This position is the first line greeter to the public. Must be able to answer phones, collect fees, and provide information to various customers and groups. Must register participants for pool passes, daily admissions, Aquatic Classes, book pool parties and sell products available for public consumption in the snack bar. Available for safety and rescue functions as needed per training. Assists in monitoring the use of the facility and locker room. Responds to public inquires and questions about aquatic programs, and responds with safety suggestions to staff and patrons.

All employees must be able to pass CPR/First Aid certification course before beginning employment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Customer Service
  • Greet all patrons in welcoming and pleasant manner.
  • Answer questions to the best of your ability and direct those you are unable to answer to the appropriate person(s) courteously.
  • Answer phones promptly and respectfully.
  • Assist in Daily Operations
  • Run register for pool admission and concession sales.
  • Keep accurate records of pool attendance, concessions, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working area.
  • Assist in the opening and closing of pool registers.
  • Must be comfortable handling currency

  • Required attendance to pool staff orientation in May, staff in-services, training sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Must be available weekdays and weekends. Preference will be given to applicants available for entire length of pool season.

Pool Managers

Seeking individual with previous management experience to work in the capacity of Pool Manager for the Lewisburg Community Pool. Responsibilities include but are not limited to enforcing policies and procedures, which ensure efficient and effective operation of pool facilities including personnel management and training. Duties involve all swimming pool operations, including first aid, rotations, scheduling for staff, public relations, janitorial duties, limited pool maintenance including daily chemical analysis/testing, pool cleaning, cleaning of bathrooms & concession stand area, swim lessons, water aerobics and all other duties as necessary or required. This employee should have excellent organizational, communication and public relation skills.

Must be Lifeguard, First-Aid and CPR Certified or able to become certified.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in supervision of staff
  • Supervise total operations of swimming pool
  • Manage seasonal pool staff members including lifeguards and front desk staff
  • Attend pool management meetings
  • Collect, count, and record reports and receipts.
  • Responsible for closing and opening of the pool.
  • Report maintenance needs to maintenance staff.
  • Assist in the scheduling and maintenance of time sheets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory or management experience and/or demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and interacting with people of all ages
  • Willingness to start prior to orientation, in order to assist with the opening of the pool to the public.
  • Previous experience working with pools
  • Current lifeguard certification
  • Readiness to work 30 hrs per week including, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Comfortable with handling chemicals, and handling required equipment for necessary work on pool when required.

Weekly Hours, Duration, and Time Commitment:

  • Required attendance to pool staff orientation, staff in-services, training sessions, and staff meetings.
  • Availability for the entire LCP season, from Memorial Day through late August. Must work weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Tennis Instructors

Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority is hiring summer tennis instructors for private and group lessons beginning in June.

  • Applicants must have tennis experience and understanding of the game and its rules/regulations.
  • Experience coaching is a plus. Instructors will work with both children and adults.
  • Must be available weekdays (morning and afternoon) and occasional weekends.
