Update 6-17-2020

The BVRA Board of Directors has made the decision that we are not able to financially sustain the pool operations for the 2020 Summer Season due to the impact that COVID-10 has had on operations.  After several board meetings this decision was made with heavy hearts.

BVRA is truly sorry for the inconvenience that this decision brings to the community and families.

BVRA looks forward to seeing you again in 2021 at the Lewisburg Community Pool.

Update 6-16-2020

There are still openings in Summer Camp at the Warming House and Art Camp.  If you are interested, please contact Shannon Howe at or 570 246-3704 to find out more about the fantastic summer outdoor camp activities.

The Community Pool water line has been repaired.  The Board of Directors meets on Wednesday, June 17th to determine the feasibility of opening the pool for a short season.  In addition to the facilities repair setback, BVRA is experiencing a fiscal downturn which affects the ability to operate the pool for the season.  BVRA was not eligible for any of the government subsidized COVID-19 funding programs and relies solely on the revenue generated from programs, municipal funding from Lewisburg Borough and East Buffalo Township, and donations.  The cost to operate the pool generates a loss of approximately $50k per year after pool revenues.  With the Gymnastics programs closed since March, the net proceeds from that and other programs used to offset the annual loss to operate the pool do not exists due to the COVID-19 shut down.  The board is weighing options heavily to make their final decision on the fate of the pool for the 2020 season.

Martial Arts Programs

Monday, June 15th, the Martial Arts Programs with Jeff Ramsey and Brien Reynolds, opened their programs again under the guidelines from the CDC for inside gym programs.  Class sizes will run at about half capacity to allow social distancing and safe practices.  If you are interested in the programs, please email Kelcie at

Energy Gymnastics is preparing to open the doors of the gymnastics center on June 22nd.  Plans are in place to follow the CDC Guidelines for social distancing and safe gymnastics practices.  To learn more about the gymnastics program options which will also be run at limited capacity, please email Kelcie at

BVRA Office is still closed to the general public while programs are getting started to allow staff to focus on those business needs.  Here is the list of contacts while we reopen our programs.  In the Green Phase, it is recommended to continue to work remotely when possible.  Plans to reopen the office are in the works.

There is no need to call or contact the BVRA office to receive the credit. Credits are all based on the Program Rosters and paid participants that were in place on March 15, 2020. If you are on a roster and paid your balance in full or in part for the program for this time range, you will receive credit for the balance paid. If you were registered but did not pay your balance as of March 31, 2020, BVRA does not owe you a credit on account.

March 31, 2020

Dear BVRA Families and Friends:

Two days ago, Sunday, March 29, President Trump announced that the United States would continue following CDC recommendations and Social Distancing until at least April 30, 2020.  In addition, yesterday, Governor Wolf announced that Pennsylvania Schools were postponed indefinitely for now and we are following the guidelines to maintain Social Distancing through April 30, 2020, as well as continuing to stay closed if the company is a non-essential, non life supporting business.

We are currently looking at ways to offer some on-line program options with our Gymnastics Director, John Rowe and two of his Gymnastics Instructors, Jessica Guffey and Kelcie Angstadt to keep our gymnastics team members and other gymnastics program members engaged with their instructors.  In addition, our Martial Arts Instructors Jeff Ramsey and Brien Reynolds are going to be offering remote instruction to their students who are enrolled in their classes. Once these interim program options are ready to go, your instructors will be in contact with you so that you know how to join in the fun.

We appreciate your patience and hope that you and your families are healthy and staying safe by practicing the CDC recommended steps and Social Distancing so that we can do our part in “flattening the curve” and beating COVID-19.

Last week Governor Wolf had extended school closures until April 14, 2020.  On Sunday the 29, 2020 the President stated the social distancing will stay in place at least until the end of April.  As of yesterday March 30, 2020, Governor Wolf followed the same process but took it one step further by closing down schools indefinitely and non-essential businesses indefinitely.  There are stay at home orders for 26 counties.  Union County is not on a stay at home order as of now.  Evangelical hospital recently announced their statistics on the virus locally.

With this news BVRA is continuing to follow the mandates.  We are closed at this time.  Our focus has shifted to summer programming with pool operations, summer camps, and special summer events.

UPDATED 3/13/2020 @ 4:35 pm

Due to Governor Wolf’s Announcement BVRA is making programming decisions as follows

BVRA Coronavirus Public Announcement

In an effort to strike a balance between maintaining Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) programming and protecting the community from the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), BVRA is making decisions in keeping with guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control.

Governor Tom Wolf announced this afternoon that all Pennsylvania schools will be shut down for two (2) weeks starting on Monday.

Currently, BVRA is running programming through Sunday, March 15, 2020 unless additional information warrants a change. If you are participating in BVRA programs and your School District was closed (Shikellamy and Midd-West) on Friday, March 13, 2020, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND your scheduled BVRA program.  Please call and speak with our staff to discuss your anticipated return to the BVRA program(s).

BVRA will follow the Lewisburg School District schedule and comply with the Governor’s ruling to suspend all BVRA programming for two weeks, including the gymnastics center.  Every effort will be made to reschedule programming.  Please stay connected to our email communications, BVRA website (, social media, and local media outlets to access when our programs would be resumed or rescheduled.

For this weekend, to protect the community, any participant/family member suffering from symptoms of respiratory illness (fever, funny nose, cough, & shortness of breath) is asked not to attend any BVRA programming, playground & park facility, and the gymnastics center.  If community members access the BVRA park & playground area, it is a play at your own risk space.

If you have any questions, please contact Shirley Brough, Executive Director at
