Community Angel Steps in to Save Lewisburg Ice Rink

Lewisburg, PA – On Monday, January 8th Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) announced that the Lewisburg Ice Rink would not open for the 2018 season.

This decision was reached after lengthy board discussion. To meet community need the Warming House hosts preschool  nature and play based programming during the day and after school. Therefore the need to add additional facility space to serve the rink was necessary for operation.  Costs needed to open the rink were projected to exceed revenue for the season. As of today, there is no agreement for municipal contribution past December 2108.  In light of this uncertainty the board determined that the fiscally responsible decision was to not open the rink for the 2018 season.

Today BVRA is thrilled to announce that on the heels of the Standard Journal, the Daily Item and WNEP reporting the story about the ice rink, a community angel has stepped forward. An anonymous donor has made it possible to not only open the ice rink for winter 2018, but for years to come!

BVRA staff, with the cooperation of local businesses, will be working through the weekend so that weather permitting the rink can open this Monday Jan 15th! Please join us in expressing our overwhelming gratitude to this donor by coming out and enjoying the BVRA Ice Rink this winter!

Admission to the rink is $2-$3 and skates are available for rent for an additional $2.   For rink hours or more information please go to our website,, our Facebook page, or call the rink voicemail at 570-524-4774.   We will be hiring rink attendants for the season.  Please call 570-524-4774 if you are interested in applying.
