Summer Art in the Park

BVRA's popular after school Art Club will be continuing with special weekly programs through the summer! Class participants will work on a variety of media and create keepsake projects that can be displayed or given as gifts to friends and family. Join the creativity and fun as we explore sculpture, painting and printmaking.

Each week at Summer Art Club we will have a different "theme of the week." These themes will help structure the direction of our projects for the week, and will facilitate the teaching of our "big picture" art concepts.

PLEASE READ: Because of current events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, all art camps will follow the CDC and government recommendations involving social distancing practices. Camps will be held outdoors at the West Field of the St. Mary Street Park. Students will be distanced from one another. Face-shields and/or masks are mandatory for all students.

Art Club Sessions Week-by-Week: All weeks will run Monday-Thursday, with Friday as a weather make-up day.

June 1- June 4: "Happy Little Trees" Exploration - This week we are channeling each student's inner Bob Ross, as we use different mediums to create tree-themed projects. This week was inspired by local artist (and BVRA Art Club friend) Bobby Gorby. Bobby credits Bob Ross and "The Joy of Painting," with inspiring his future career; and Bobby is now passing on the legacy by encouraging other young artists.

June 29 - July 2: Art, Sparks, and Fireworks - This week we will explore the beauty, color, and abstract imagery of fireworks! In preparation for the Fourth of July, our young artists will design projects inspired by different elements of fireworks.

July 13 - July 16: @rt on Social Media - Our purpose this week is to teach kids about fun and artistic ways to engage with social media in a safe way. As parents, we struggle with trusting social media in our children's lives. What we sometimes forget is that our children are also struggling to navigate the ever-changing terrain of social adolescence. We want to teach your kids the skills to have an interesting, and fun "brand" on social media, while also arming them with the necessary knowledge to use it safely and in a meaningful way. Our program will feature tips, lessons, and ideas about things like online bullying, personal security, and conscious consumption, while also using art skills to create backdrops, edit photos, and learn about image effects.

July 27 - July 30: Christmas (Holidays) in July- The heat really starts to boil by the third week of July, so cool off and get in the holiday spirit with our festive Christmas in July projects! We will be crafting projects that get us in the wintry mindset of December, and maybe even making some Christmas gifts in advance. This is a great week for kids to help mom and dad take something from their holiday TO-DO list to their holiday DONE list! Not a Christmas family? Just let us know in advance and we'll have lots of non-denominational wintry options! *We wanted to make a point of thanking our friend Tia Brown who inspired some of the projects for this week's theme! Tia is an artist in Elysburg who directs "Make Your Mark Studios." Check out her work here: https://www.facebook.com/makeyourmarkartstudio/

AUGUST 10 - 13: Fashion and Style Workshops - Get your kids prepped to go back to school in style with this fun week of fashion! We will be crafting stylish accessories, taking rags to riches with our thrift shop finds, and practicing our model walks and photography skills. Your kids will love develop their own style as they experiment and design. This program is a great accompaniment to our Social Media art week, as kids learn how to be confident and safe
